Post-16

At Educate U, our young people are at the heart of everything we do. Following a successful change of material in September 2026 Educate U expanded to offer education to students aged up to 18 (Key Stage 5). Our Post-16 provision, Futures provides a supportive and personalised programme for young people in Years 12 and 13 that prepares our students for adulthood and their next steps.

Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) is at the centre of our Post-16 curriculum. We recognise that preparing for adulthood looks different for every young person, and therefore each student’s programme is planned around their individual needs, EHCP outcomes, interests, strengths and aspirations.

Our programme focuses on the four key areas of Preparation for Adulthood: employment, independent living, community inclusion and good health. These areas are embedded throughout students’ learning and are supported through qualifications, vocational learning, work experience, careers education, PSHE, independent living skills and opportunities to access and participate in the wider community.

We continue to place emotional wellbeing and high-quality learning at the centre of our provision. Our trauma-informed approach ensures that students feel safe and supported, whilst being encouraged to develop their confidence, resilience and independence. Positive and trusting relationships remain an important part of this, with staff working alongside each young person to support their individual development.

Our students are supported to build on their existing knowledge and skills whilst developing the practical and personal skills they will need for adult life. This includes learning to make choices, communicate their needs, develop greater independence, build positive relationships, access their community and begin to understand the world of work.

Students are supported academically, socially, emotionally and vocationally through an individual programme which brings together qualifications, practical learning, personal development, careers education and PfA.

Learning takes place Monday to Thursday, 9.30am–2.30pm, with each student following a programme appropriate to their individual pathway.

Our Post-16 students continue to benefit from the wider specialist support available across Educate U where identified as part of their individual needs.

Our aim is for students to leave Educate U with the knowledge, skills, confidence and independence they need for their next stage, whether this is further education, training, employment, supported employment or greater independence in adult life.
